Sunday at... the Zoo

There are few things I love more than spending time at Schönbrunn Zoo, either sketching or taking photos.
Today I brought my camera, met my BFF and her daughter and spent hours rediscovering old favourites
and new jungsters.
We got up close and personal with big and  hungry,
 small and sleepy and
 freshly dressed animals.
Seeing the new polar bear enclosure for the first time was a wonderfull experience. It offers such great opportunities for visitors to see these majestic animals and also
a chance for the bears to observe their visitors closely.
Producing a bow wave.
The renovated monkey enclosure offers its residents many opportunities to hide,
but with patience it is possible to capture some nice photos.
The highpoint at the end of our visit was to see the tigers active, bathing and very observant:
two kids right in front of me obviously seemed like interesting prey and were observed very closely. A great Sunday with hundreds of photos to look through.

Sunday at .... Donaukanal

One of the many things I love about Vienna is that though it is a major city, it has also a very close connection to nature. Not only the in surrounding areas but also right in the center of the city. Donaukanal, an artificial side arm of the river danube runs right through the heart of the city, offering a green oasis for people and animals alike.
Let's rest,
 smell the roses,
and watch the trafic go by.
You can talk to the birds,
or visit an urban garden.
If you feel watched - maybe you are?
Time for another rest.....

Sunday in.... history

The Museum of Military History organises a reenactment weekend every summer, where different historical military groups and other reenactment groups from the middle ages upwards meet and let people and especially children experience life in military camps.

 Experts confere,
fashion has to be just right:
and funny chessmatches with living figures are organised:
In case you're wondering: Bishop takes pawn (this was before famine took all pawns, the black queen poisend her way across the chess board, the white king ran off with a knight and a lot of other crazyness was commanded by the two jesters who played).

Weekend in .... Pöllau

Pöllau in Styria is a wonderfull place to spend some days during summer. While it offers a lot of possibilities for walking and spending time outside, I spent 4 days painting. I did take the opportunity though, to visit and observe some old and new friends:
Oh, you're back again?
And who are you?
Hm, I do not trust you...
That is my twig!
Sorry, have to fly....
the kids are waiting!
All that coming and going - I'm exhausted!
