Having missed the last few sketchcrawls I decided rather impulsively to join in this time, though the weather was not really advantageously. It has been snowing here in Vienna and - rather unusually - a lot:
For this weekend a drop in temperatures below -10°C was predicted. As Meiselmarked - an indoor market - was proposed as meeting place, I decided to join the fun.
We tried to keep out of the way of both shoppers and vendors and ended up sitting next one of the entries and after about an hour it was too cold to continue. As the coffee shop we wanted to go to, to warm up and continue drawing was closed "due to technical difficulties" we decided to call it a day. Still, I am rather satisfied with my results.
After finishing the top for my Easy Street Quilt I tried to figure out how much fabric I would need for the back. As I hardly ever buy more than 3 meters nothing I had would be enough so either I would need to piece a back or buy something. Kill all my budgeting plans on the third day of the year??? I spent a rather restless evening neither being able to concentrate on sewing something else or watching TV, so I picked a book read and went to bed.
Reading enabled my brain to do it's thing and suddenly I had to get up again, start to rummage through the left over fabrics from the top, measure, figure out dimensions and started cutting. Around 2 am I decided to go to bed and continue in the morning.
Voila, Block A in size 40:-) All it needs now is a small strip of purple to bring it up the the size of the top.
Washing the floor of the entry, getting the ladder out of the store room and here it is. Tomorrow I will baste it. To be able to machine quilt it, I'll have to finally get serious with practicing on a smaller scrap quilt.
Evening hours were spent on the first blocks of a calender quilt out of a magazin, a friend of mine publishes: Patchwork und Quiltjournal .
On Monday it is back to work and a wonderfull "piecefull" vacation is over.
It's done! What a fun trip this was (even today, when I felt as if I frogstitched more than I sewed....).
Now I have to turn my attention to the second baby quilt, which was put aside while piecing this top and once that is done, I'll start machinequilting this beauty.
Karin decided (with a little gentle persuasion) to offer us another year of challenges to keep us busy with our cameras. If you are interested, you can find informationhere.
A gentle start to ease us into the challenge with a short week. Downloading the photos from my memory card to clean it up for a new year I relized that I have managed to capture two red photos from the New Years fireworks from my window. They may not be the best photos of fireworks but they fit the theme.
As I am busy putting together my Easy Street Quilttop I will use them anyway.
Wishing you all a wonderfull New Year and all the best for 2013!
